Our Khao Sok Cycling Adventure is a fantastic way to experience the surroundings of Anurak Lodge and immerse yourself in local village life. It is also a very enjoyable and educational tour and can be done by everyone who is in reasonable shape. The impressive limestone scenery of Khao Sok National Park will be the backdrop of this relaxing bicycle trip.
After a short briefing by your guide about the tour and about the bicycles we pedal to the main road. We take small, rural roads as much as possible but we have to cycle a bit along the main road. Keep left! Our first stop is a large garden with many different fruit trees and plants. You will see pineapple, mango, dragon fruit, guava, papaya, just to mention a few. Some trees and plants might bear fruit, other might not. Your guide will show you pictures of the fruits. You will be surprised at the variety of fruits in this area. There are also some beautiful palm trees in the garden such as the red palm and the betel nut palm. We continue at a leisurely pace.
Much of the area consists of rubber and palm oil plantations. Your guide will explain about the way local people tap rubber. He will also explain about the history of the rubber tree, which is not native to Thailand, and the many uses of rubber. We will pedal through plantations against the breathtaking backdrop of the limestone mountains. There is enough for taking pictures and enjoy the lovely natural environment. The oil palm is beautiful. Your guide will explain about the many uses of the palm oil. The palm fruit takes five to six months to mature from pollination to maturity. It is reddish, about the size of a large plum, and grows in large bunches. It produces the palm oil.
We will pass local houses and a school. People are generally very friendly and we can stop for a chat. Last stop will be a Buddhist shrine in a cave where you can feed the fish. From here we pedal back to the Lodge where your Khao Sok Cycling Adventure ends.
This trip requires a medium level of fitness.
