Thai cuisine has a long and wonderful history as one of the most exotic and exquisitely diverse foods on the planet, with a whole range of very distinctive flavors and tastes that can be broken down into four main regions of the country geographically, namely, the Northern Region, the Northeast (Isaan), Central and Southern regions.
A selection of delicious Thai dishes can now be replicated by you with our ‘Local Cooking Experience’ that introduces you – not just to the classic Thai dishes – but also to a selection of Southern Thai favorites that are popular with locals in the Khao Sok region, as well as other parts of southern Thailand.
For the Local Cooking Experience, you will be picked up from Anurak by songteaw – the local form of transport – for a short ride to the cooking class where our local chef will introduce you to the mysteries of southern Thai cooking, as well as a few of the Thai classics like gaeng keo wan – the quintessential green curry made with chicken or pork; tom ka gai – Thai chicken coconut soup made with coconut milk; and phad phak ruam mitr, easy, delicious and healthy stir-fried vegetables, traditionally served with rice – a great way to liven up the taste of greens!
After you have mastered these dishes and other cooking techniques – like learning to boil rice without a rice cooker – you will sit down in picturesque surroundings with our chef to savor the fruits of your labor. You then return to Anurak Community Lodge, but not before you have the recipes of your newly acquired Thai dishes firmly in your grasp to try out at home!
